Regional Health to relocate emergency room at main campus – KOTA – Kotatv

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) – Starting Monday, August 21st, 2017, Rapid City Regional Hospital (RCRH) will close down its existing emergency entrance and parking lot to allow for construction of a larger emergency room and a new main entrance.

The temporary emergency entrance and parking lot will be relocated to the west side of the hospital in what was Regional Health Rehabilitation Institute parking lot.

There will be a covered walkway to the new entrance and will feature, security, an emergency phone, security officers and cameras so that caregivers can keep an eye on the parking lot for emergency situations.

With about 55,000 visits last year to the emergency room, the busiest in South Dakota, this expansion is badly needed.

“It’s going to be state-of-the-art, said Jennifer Murray, Emergency Department Director for RCRH. Our hope is that very decreased limited waiting time for our patients. When you got a department that you have out grown, you undoubtedly can have patients waiting to be seen because we just don’t have the physical space to see them. So our hope is that patients arrive, we bring them right inthey see a physician nearly immediatelyand now we get them in and out much quicker. “

The temporary emergency entrance will be in effect for at least two years as construction wraps up.
